Draft Marine AtoN Strategy - 2025 and Beyond

2025 and Beyond is the United Kingdom and Ireland's marine aids to navigation (AtoN) strategy.

It has been prepared by the General Lighthouse Authorities (GLAs) of Trinity House, Northern Lighthouse Board and Irish Lights for their users, partners and stakeholders.

New Mizen Bridge!

Welcome boost for Mizen Head Tourism!

A contract for the construction of a new bridge to the Mizen Head Lighthouse has been signed and work will start right away with the new bridge ready for next summer's tourist season.

Minister Dempsey announces that the Light Dues rate from 1st August 2009 to 31st March 2010, has been increased from 52 to 57 cents

Minister Dempsey announces that the Light Dues rate from 1st August 2009 to 31st March 2010, has been increased from 52 to 57 cents per ton and the maximum number of voyages to be levied has been increased from 7 to 9 in any one year. The GLAs Joint Navigation Requirements Policies (JNRP) has been updated December 2007. This document sets out the joint policies of the three GLA on a wide variety of matters relating to navigation policy and aids to navigation. There are 18 policies, including a Formal Navigation Policy, an AtoN Review Process, The User Consultation Process, the Superintedence & Management of Local Aids to Navigation and criteria on e-Navigation, DGNSS, eLoran and AIS. The document also contains useful reference material for both users and providers of Aids to Navigation.


CIL AIS Interreg IIIA Project

As part of our Interreg IIIA Project CIL is publishing CIL AIS News. The purpose of these newsletters is to inform the marine community of the AIS project and to stimulate debate on the benefits and limitations of AIS. Changes to Marine DGPS
The changes to the DGPS frequencies and ranges have taken place. A full station map and a table of frequencies and ranges is available under the Marine DGPS button on the side bar.

DGPS Incident Report
Mariners are encouraged to submit any concerns or observations they have on coverage or lack of it.

We continue to add to our Picture Library and provide additional historical data on the lighthouses featured.

Beam Magazine
BEAM Magazine No. 37 the latest edition of the Journal of the Irish Lighthouse Service is now available on our site. Hard copies are available on request.

Statutory Sanction Form
A downloadable version is available on line for Local Authorities and Harbour Administrations.

Our Information area will point you towards other information on Irish Lights, sources of further information on lighthouses, and contacts with linked maritime heritage centres around the country. It also gives lists of the ships and lightships owned by Irish Lights over the years.
